VTG Pigeon Forge Pottery Douglas Ferguson Raccoon Figurine, Art Studio Ceramic Raccoon Figurine, Raccoon Figurine, 5.5" order High

A beautifully glazed signed Douglas Ferguson Pigeon Forge Pottery raccoon.

It has a lovely brown and white speckled glaze that's my favorite of the glazes they used.

In the 1980's, I had a cabin in the Smoky Mountains. I never went there without also paying a visit to the Pigeon Forge Pottery Studio (now long gone). The gallery where the pottery was displayed was filled with natural light. Natural objects such as dried seed pods, river rocks, drift wood, etc. were used to stage the pieces that were for sale. It was visually inspiring, and I miss it.

Pigeon Forge Pottery was founded in 1946 by Douglas James Ferguson and his family and was located at the base of the Smoky Mountains in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The pottery that was produced was mainly utilitarian, hand made, and fired individually. Most pieces were marked and often contained the signature of the artist. The pottery closed around 2000. Today Pigeon Forge wares are collectible and many are quite valuable.

This raccoon is order in great condition with no chips/cracks/repairs. There is a tiny indentation in the ring that surrounds its right eye but it's covered in the original glaze and was part of the production process. Please refer to Photo #1 and #5.

There are three green felt tabletop protectors on the bottom that I decided not to remove.
