Vintage KNORR Wachsengelskopf (wax angel head) Wax Over Doll Head and Arms with Wire, Boxed. Used for making Christmas angels. Made of clear wax with molded hair.
Very good vintage condition, never used in its original plastic box. The box is deformed but the doll head and hands are intact.

Length of the head and neck: 4,5 cm
Length of the hands: 3,5 cm

Some of the oldest known existing examples of dolls have been found made of wax. There are three basic types of wax dolls:
Ancient-1800's Poured Wax Dolls are made of tinted wax, hair is inserted into the head, have molded eyelids, realistic facial modelling order and hollow poured limbs, sometimes marked on shoulder plate.
1800-1900's Wax Over Dolls are made of clear wax, molded hair or wigged, no molded eyelids and solid limbs.
1860-1890's Reinforced Wax Dolls are made of tinted wax, wigged, molded eyelids, realistic facial modeling and hollowed poured limbs.
