This is an 8x11 inch watercolor and ink painting. Unframed, signed, original.

I included different variations in size in case you would like me to trim off the white border around the painting. Without the border it's a bit of an odd size to find a frame for but I figured I'd at least list the option. 11x8 inches is the size with border and 10x7 inches is the size without.

Stories of Airmid tend to be on the tragic side. She is from the ancient Celtic race of gods, the Tuatha de Danann, of the mythological cycle of Celtic folklore. This illustration is based off of one of her stories where after her brother's passing she went and mourned at his grave every day for a year. Over the course of this time 365 healing herbs sprung up around his grave, one for each order day that she visited. Once she realized the potential of these herbs she got to work collecting them in her cloak to bring home. Then along came her father, who was jealous of Airmid's skill as a healer. He saw what she was doing and scattered these medicinal plants into the wind, thus resulting in them being given to humanity.

In modern contexts she is still viewed as a symbol of healing and wellness. In this illustration I chose to weave medicinal plants into her hair to reflect the story. I also painted her crying because her stories often end with the frustration of her work being destroyed. I feel like crying isn't shown too often in artwork as it's an undesirable emotion but I feel it can play a great role in story telling.
