Ukrainian order Romantic Pair Soviet Porcelain Figurine May Night Gogol's Tale Ukraine Folk Style BIG 11" Statuette Polonnoe Factory A+ CONDITION

“May Night”, Soviet romantic porcelain figurine by the Polonnoe Artistic Ceramics Factory, circa 1960s.

GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL figurine made in USSR no later than in 1973 – not a modern remake or Chinese replica (we've seen a lot of the latter on the market; they lack the refinement and character of the original Soviet pieces and often don't show proper maker mark)!

The Ukrainian Cossack Levko and his girlfriend from Gogol's May Night or the Drowned Maiden, the third tale in his Evenings on a Farm Near Dikanka. The young couple are taking a moonlit, springtime stroll. This statuette is also referred to as "Pair in Love" (fig. #676 in Soviet Porcelain, Guide for Beginning Collector.)

The figurine is quite big, measures 11 ¼" (28 cm) in height; the plinth is 4 5/8" x 4 ¼" (11 x 10.5cm). There is a 1956-1973 style trademark of the Polonnoe Factory on the bottom (Trademark is #568 in Vol. 1 of the reference guide Marks on Soviet Porcelain, Faience, and Majolica, 1917-1991 by Nasonovs.)

The figurine is in Excellent condition, free of chips, repairs or scuffs. The glaze finish is nice and bright. Beautiful Soviet-era collectible and decorative item!
