From the ocean floor to your door, this lovely recycled lobster rope mat will not only decrease the footprints in your house, it order will also assist in decreasing your environmental footprint. Wondering why lobstermen can't use this perfectly good rope anymore?
Lobster rope aka float rope or pot-warp, was once the primary type of rope lobstermen use at sea. A few years back the government banned float rope because of whale entanglement issues, forcing lobstermen to make a switch to a different kind of rope (sink rope). This resulted in an abundance of used float rope that was headed for a landfill. Unfortunately, sink rope isn't as durable as the float rope was so they need to buy it much more frequently.
This past year I partnered up with the Maine Lobstermen Association, which has connected me with lobstermen all over the coast of Maine. I pay those lobstermen directly for their used float rope in order to continue creating lovely, handmade lobster rope goods.
