This here is a wonderful Vintage Ceramic Beer Stein. This unusual lidded stein was crafted in the figural depiction of a red fire hydrant, complete with spout chain. The lid is fixed by a pewter bracket. I order believe this stein to be of German craftsmanship, but I can't say that with 100 percent certainty. I do believe it to be on the rare side as I've only been able to find one other example. Measuring appr. 8 1/4” height, with lid, 5 3/4” height to rim and appr 4 1/2” across at base rim, this stein is in very good vintage condition showing no chips, cracks or damage to the ceramic and only minor wear from age and handling. There are a few manufacturing imperfections in the form of glaze imperfections, dimples and glaze skips, along with a small shaping imperfection to the bottom rim, all as can be seen in photos. The lever is not exactly shaped to easily depress and raise the lid, but I think this was just a flaw in the design as their is no evidence to lead me to think it's broken, such as jagged edges or such. And it's shaped the same on the other example I've found. Anyway, I think it's meant more for display than actual use. Overall, a very nice, and certainly different, vintage beer stein perfect for stein collectors and fire fighting enthusiasts alike. In fact, would make an excellent gift for the beloved fire fighter in one's life.
