Jak and Daxter Shadowbox | Custom Handmade Colored Paper Cardstock 3D Art | Video Game Pop Culture Design | Precursor Legacy Wall order Artwork
Any Jak and Daxter fans out there? If you count.
Any Jak and Daxter fans out there? If you count yourself as one of them, this is a must-have piece! This piece is custom designed as a tribute to the fantastic franchise. The piece is made from 8 sheets of laser cut colored paper cardstock. Each sheet is then held separate from the others using fine metal spacing beds. This order shadowbox style design gives the piece an incredible amount of 3 dimensionality. The result is a remarkably beautiful and colorful wall hanging that will draw the eye and be the perfect ornament to any room you choose.
This Shadowbox style is of my own design. I use 110# paper cardstock and laser cut each sheet precisely to make an intriguing and artful piece. The front and back plates are made from 1/8" clear acrylic which helps protect the paper while adding rigidity to the whole piece. 4 aluminum flat-backed Chicago screws run though the entire piece, holding all the layers in place and giving the front a smooth and professional look. Finally, the layers are each held separate with cast metal rings, each one with a small simple design etched on its face. The shadowbox also features a small keyhole cut on the back to allow for easy hanging. The finished piece is strong while appearing to be delicate and simply constructed while seeming complex.
I've always been a big fan of the Playstation 2 era of platformer games. I grew up on the Ratchet and Clank Trilogy and spent hours with Sly Cooper and the gang. But to me Jak and Daxter was the pinnacle of platforming. This piece originally came as a commission and I tried my hardest to pour my love and appreciation for the games into it. I decided to focus on The Precursor Legacy for imagery. There are so many beautiful and iconic images from the trilogy, but to me, the first game was always the truest example of the Jak and Daxter style. I wanted to work a lot of action into this artpiece and so decided on using one of the precursor orb celebrations as the first layer. The dunk was an easy choice as it worked well with the balance and was always my favorite celebration. In addition, Samos' hut, the Jungle Temple, and the mosquito-esque boss robot were also some of the most memorable concepts in the game.
This shadowbox is something I designed and made myself. If you are interested in a custom design, please reach out as I love doing commissions. Also, make sure to check out some of my other Shadowboxes here in the shop.
