Reijmyre
Reijmyre glassworks dates back to 1810, when it was founded, by Johan Jacob Graver and Baron Mattias Alexander von Ungern-Sternberg. Today Reijmyre is one of Sweden's oldest still running glassworks. It is particularly known for genuine craftsmanship and style-conscious design, both in clear and coloured crystal glass. At Reijmyre, everything is made entirely by hand. Reijmyre is perhaps mainly characterized by characteristic glass design, combined with form and function in fantastic colours, especially red, green and blue.
A very exciting time era in Reijmyres history is the beginning of the 20th century when Art Nouveau cased glass technique reached a world audience at major international exhibitions. In 1901, the glassworks started a collaboration with several designers and began to develop and manufacture glass in Art Nouveau style. Prominent designer was Betzy Ählström who also became Sweden's first female glass-related designer
The international breakthrough for Reijmyres Jugend glass took place at the exhibition modern arts and crafts in Turin in 1902. Reijmyres most famous artist is perhaps Monica Bratt. Monica was active at Reijmyre 1937-1958. Monica Bratt has designed classic and functional glasses in beautiful colours. Her firm belief was that any given colour would emphasize the design of the glass in order to visually express the right character. Today one can still see much of previous designers' order contribution, making their glass a true form of art, classic design and amazing craftmanship. Their mid-century products are very sought after for collectors worldwide, since they are timeless and very elegant.
