Part of order the rarity and uniqueness of a given piece is found in manufacturing methods. This wonderful example of Embossed Basketweave was a line first introduced by the McCoy Pottery Company as early as 1932. This highly detailed and intricate planter had to be made 10% larger in order to allow for 5% shrinkage in both the firing and drying processes. This particular example is hard to find in this size. Self contained with its own saucer, its primary element is that of a tight basketweave design. Adorning four sides are medallion like handles encircled with stylized foliage. Fired in an eye catching aqua gloss glaze, each component is true to its line with its raised relief providing a life like depth. Having a shape number of 294, it is Incised and shaded to provide additional visual interest. Standing 3 3/4" tall, it is 3" across the bottom and tapers outward to a span of 4" at the top. There is some mild crazing on the inside rim and bottom along with a few extra bits of clay and some random glaze pops. These are synonymous with McCoy pieces and do not overtly detract from its great appearance. No chips or cracks are noted. It is in very good condition and would make a decorative stand alone display or simply as a cherished addition to your McCoy or art pottery collection. Thanks for looking!
