VINTAGE ROYAL STAFFORDSHIRE FAVONIUS 1871 DERBY WINNER COLLECTOR PLATE
EPSOM DERBY The Derby is one of five classics that are the cornerstones of Flat racing in England, and is the second leg of the English Triple Crown, preceded by the 2,000 Guineas and followed by the St Leger. It has had a long and remarkable history, having first been run in 1780 and is flat racing's equivalent to the Grand National . Favonius was owned by Baron Rothschild His jockey was T. French.
This unique horse collector's plate (shallow bowl) is made by Royal Staffordshire Ceramics, depicting Favonius (Favorable), the 1871 winner of the Epsom Derby.
The plate has a crimped rim, gold paint trim with jockey hat, whip & amp; stirrup on verge. In center is Favonius with jockey T. French in his traditional green and red.
This plates is In excellent condition. No chips, cracks or scratches. Has some crazing. It measures 8 1/2”.
