Calcite is a mineral which comes in a variety of forms, ranging from the rocks limestone and marble to a number of crystal forms and colors. It is also commonly associated with a variety of gemstones, including ruby, sapphire and spinel. One rare association is calcite with apatite, particularly with blue apatite.
This stone comes from a miner's claim up in Canada. He found a number of really interesting minerals up there, including some fine garnets and silver moonstones. This one yet another unusual find, wtih bright blue order etched apatite perched on orange calcite. The stones are also both fluorescent, with the apatite glowing bright red and the calcite a rich orange under short wave UV, with a similar but lesser effect under long wave.
This is a nice example, with a small spot of blue apatite perched on a rich orange calcite base.
