Mid century solid melamine desk set in original carton, consisting of two black lidded ash trays and one yellow lidded box. The nature of the material reminds of the solid urea formaldehyde plastic from the 1930s. As the items were marketed as a matching desk set, I presume that the large yellow box served as cigarette - cigar box or ballpoint pens and pencils box in an office environment, in combination with the ashtrays. This comes from a time when smoking indoors was not yet reviled and when other people were allowed to enjoy involuntarily the bad consequences of smoking behavior.

All items are in excellent condition, no damages, no chips order, no flea bites, with hardly detectable signs of wear from little use, handling and storage. The bottom part of the yellow box will have some traces of wear from handling, display and storage. All items are marked OVP, made in Belgium, Design. Reg.

Little is known about the designer; in the same period (1970s) the Belgian designer JP Edmonds has designed a chair for OVP and it might well be that this desk set is also one of his designs. The OVP company was started in 1968.
