Victorian Ice Skates - circa late order 1800's

A Victorian Collectible.....

Ice Skating was all the rage in the Victorian Age starting around 1850. Both men and women ventured out into the cold to enjoy this winter sport and a variety of ice skates were available. This is a pair of ice skates from the 1800's and in a catalogue they are described as:

"The skate runner is made from the best rolled cast steel; plates, clamps, etc. of cold rolled steel, bright finish. The easy work and sure grip lock lever will fit large or small boot heels."

This pair of ice skates have a 7 on the bottom (probably the size) and a heel clamp and toe clamps--all of which seem to be in working order. A bit of rust and show use. They are made of heavy steel, have a steel foot and you can see order where they would dig into the boot heel so as to stay on. The blades are thick and a bit sharp. These adjusted to your foot length and your toes. Lots of workmanship just to make them and to even tougher to get them on properly.

Perfect for display or anyone brave enough to try these out on the ice.
