The McCoy Pottery Company produced numerous planters that encompassed animal, scenic and natural themes. This example is a unique portrayal of a natural phenomenon. As many of us head into the long months of winter, it presents all of the elements of the season. Called an Icicle planter, it was produced in the 1950's. Fired in a gloss green glaze, incised and shaded vertical striations emanate from the attached order saucer and culminate at the underside of the stylized dripping ice that hangs downward from the rim. The thickness of this unglazed component provides a realistic depth and interesting visual appeal. Having a shape number of 115, it stands 3 3/4" tall and is 3" across at the base and spans 4 1/4" at the rim. There is a small glaze miss on the saucer and very mild and minimal staining on the icicles. This would make a wonderful stand alone decoration or simply as a nice addition to your art pottery collection. Thanks for looking!
