There was a collection of wonderful oil paintings at a recent Estate Sale. They were all by the same artist - Jessie Johnson and her business card was attached to the back order of one of the paintings, along with her signature on each of the pieces. I was not able to find any additional information on her art or her bio but she obviously has talent and this is a nice collection to bring to Warmth & Cheer. Another part of the mystery was why this particular Estate sale had so many of her pieces. I wonder if they were her patron or she was a relative? I know the last name was different. Oh well, enjoy these pieces. They are lovely!
This is a beautiful signed still life oil painting of fruit in classic mid century colors and style. There is a bright green pitcher with dried flowers which is accented by a blue napkin and candle and a stack of orange books. The entire piece is textured which adds dimensionality to the presentation. The painting is on a J L Hudson canvas panel that is held into the frame with small nails. The frame is lighter oak of the style that was made in Mexico in the mid century. It has a beveled edge and off white linen accent liner. It is signed Johnson.
I envision this painting being used in a fall mantel theme, or even Halloween display as it has the colors of the harvest . The orange books and neutral grasses look so good with blue and cream to welcome in the next season!
The painting, the frame and the easel are all in really nice condition. The frame has a few surface nicks and the linen liner is separating in the top left hand corner. The back appears to have had something glued on it at one time and that is no longer affixed. No hanging apparatus.
It's really charming!
