C.1910 Rab and His Friends Mastiff Dog Story by Dr. John Brown Envelope Book order George W. Jacobs & Co.

Mastiff dog book: Rab and His Friends by Dr. John Brown published between 1907-1912. A rare find! This is an envelope book. Envelope books were published in the U.S. between 1907-1912. They came with wrappers which had Christmas greetings on them and were designed to be sent instead of greeting cards. The envelope books are soft cover books shaped like a standard envelope. The illustrations in this edition are from water color paintings by Hannah Clarke Preston Macgoun (1864-1913), a well known Scottish artist. The book was printed by Neill and Company, Ltd., Edinburgh, but was distributed in the United States by George W. Jacobs and Company, Philadelphia. This is a fabulous collectible book for anyone who loves, Mastiffs, dogs or antiquarian books!

Description: Pages inside are in excellent condition with no tears or marks. The book was printed on high quality paper. The soft cover has some wear and a tear at the bottom of the spine, order but it is complete (nothing is torn off of it). There is a stain on the back cover (see last photo). The front of the cover is loose. The book measures 6 5/8 inches by 3 5/8 inches. There are 48 pages. All pages are well attached except for the title page which is not attached at the top half. Looks very good for a soft cover book which is at least 107 years old!
