• Littala's Tsaikka glass was designed by Timo Sarpaneva in 1957. Tsaikka is perfect for hot drinks, such as tea or mulled wine. It consists of an organically shaped glass that lets you enjoy the colour of the drink, while the characteristic, nickel-plated holder keeps your hands cool. The glasses are sold in a set of two.
Designer Timo Sarpaneva found the inspiration for the pattern of the holders after visiting a zipper factory. The first holders for the Tsaikka glasses were made out of perforated metal sheets that were, in fact, excess material from the zipper factory.

Timo Sarpaneva (1926-2006) was a well-known Finnish designer who has made a great contribution to Finnish design. He was a trained graphic designer, but has spent the majority of his life working as an industrial designer. He is famous for his glassware which was his favourite material, but he also mastered materials like porcelain, cast iron and textile. In 1956 he designed the Iittala company logo. He worked for Iittala until his death on 6th October 2006, aged 79. For his works Timo Sarpaneva received many prestigious awards, like the Lunning Prize, the Pro Finlandia medal and the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale. His works are represented in several museums' collections worldwide.
