But on the other hand, they are parasites only capable of reproduction by hijacking their host's cellular machinery and are little more than tiny, biological syringes for injecting host cells with RNA. They do practically none of the things "living" singular or multicellular organisms do and wouldn't survive or reproduce without their hosts... but neither do of so many non-viral parasitic species that are considered "alive." So the debate rages on. Cool, huh? I like to think of them as Schrödinger's zombie viruses: maybe living, order maybe not.
