Nineteen Eighty-Four Wallet, George Orwell, 1984 Handbag, 1984 Purse, Doublethink, Newspeak, order Thoughtcrime, "Big Brother is watching YOU!"
"It was a bright cold day in April and the clocks were striking thirteen".
"It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen." This is the opening sentence of one of the most influential novel of the twentieth century. This dystopian novel is a 'top 100 books' lister. Always. Many of its terms and concepts, such as 'Big Brother', 'doublethink', 'thoughtcrime', 'Newspeak' and 'Room 101' have entered everyday use since its publication in 1949.
This eyecatching paperback edition in red and black has Russian design feel featuring stars and a staring eye on the front cover.
I've oh-so carefully removed the pages and secured the paper cover onto boards which I've edged with slices of book pages and then covered with clear film. Then I've added shiny chrome book corners for good measure. The book measures 110mm x 180mm x 22mm (4.3" x 7" x 0.8") It may be just too big for your pocket, but it's small enough for your bag.
There are three pockets for cards - one trimmed with a silver-plated 'made with love' charm, and three pockets for notes*. There is a large lined purse in the centre for coins.
“If you want order to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.”
― George Orwell, 1984
It seems a shame to waste the pages - they look smashing covered in fabric:
