About the painting:

The lighthouse and the ocean have always been some of my favorite things to paint since I grew up near the sea. This painting was created spontaneously while admiring the beauty and freshness of the ocean. This painting was created using mainly a palette knife and big brush, with thick application, bold strokes, painterly detail, and rich colors. The palette knife gives my art a unique combination of contrast, fluidity, depth, texture, and impact. The amazing thick texture achieved with the knife reflects the light more than a regular brush painting and gives a beautiful sense of movement, with subtle highlights.

About me and my art experience:

As a young child order my parents enrolled me in art classes in my hometown,it was there where I discovered my love of art. In college, I studied photography and design before moving to Dalian, China to study Chinese. After coming to China, I received an oil painting kit as a Christmas gift from my husband which is when I rediscovered my love for painting. Turned out that oil painting was something that I can't even imagine living without. Before I knew I had put together quite a collection of works, some of which were exhibited at the Art Creation exhibition (Dalian, China) in 2015 and Foreign Artists Living in Dalian in Xi Cang Art Space in 2016. My works range from photo-realistic portraits to impressionist street scenes and landscapes. Currently, I am living in the United States of America, working on a Ph.D. in Chinese literature, but my passion and favorite pastime is painting.
