1960's decoupage rectangular, octagon shaped wooden box handbag covered with various Anton Pieck paintings. The handbag has a gold tone crisscross metal handle and drop ball clasp on a hinged lid. The interior is lined with red felt which is in excellent condition. The bottom of the purse has 8 brass feet. This is such an interesting piece, and I had a wonderful time researching all the details about this handbag... Very, very cool box purse and would be a great conversation piece to carry around. I have seen a lot of these decoupage purses, and this is one of the best I've seen, very well done! Be sure to look at all the photos which show each individual painting on all 9 sections of the purse.
Anton Franciscus Pieck was a Dutch painter and graphic artist. He was born in Den Helder, Netherlands on April 19, 1895. His works are whimsical scenes of village life, noted for their nostalgic or fairy tale-like characters. His prints were so popular they started a craze of print kits to decoupage onto 1960's box handbags. Anton Pieck was also a creator of Efteling, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Efteling) the largest theme park in the Netherlands and one of the oldest theme parks in the world. Similar to Disneyland, Pieck's fantasy theme world consisted of gardens and houses that were 3D replicas of his famous scenes. Pieck died at the age of 92 on November 24, 1987 in Overveen, Netherlands. If you refer to the photos, several of the scenes include Anton's name at the bottom. The Donald Art Company of New York was the publishing company that sold Anton Pieck's prints for many years. It's been said that the Donald Art Company was the most successful of all the art publishing companies in the 1900's. They sold millions of prints to retail and wholesale outlets, in the USA as well as internationally.
The box is 9.5" long, 7" wide and 5.75" tall.
The handbag is in excellent condition. The interior is also in excellent condition, no tears or stains.

SHIPPING POLICIES & MISC INFORMATION for The Perpetual Attic: (Updated 4/8/22)
As shop owner, I will do my best to describe the condition of all the items in my shop. Since I sell vintage and antiques there may be flaws on some of the items I sell, and I will note those in the item description and show them in the photos. Please check out each photo and read each items description very carefully. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about the items in my shop before purchasing and be sure to refer to my "Shop Policies" section for additional information. You can locate my "Shop Polices" from each individual listing or from my home page.
I ship via the United States Postal Service with an Etsy shipping label. If you select "Priority Mail", shipments are automatically insured for $100.00. If you purchase an item that has a value of more than $100, I will request additional insurance coverage when the Etsy shipping label is generated. This order will allow me to file a claim for the full value of the item should the item arrive damaged or is lost in transit. If the item purchased weighs less than 1 pound, you would then have the option to select "First Class Mail". First Class Mail does not have automatic insurance coverage, but I will request insurance coverage when the Etsy shipping label is generated. This will allow me to file a claim for the First-Class shipment should the item arrive damaged or is lost in transit.
I do my best to pack everything carefully so as not to brake during transit. If you receive a broken item, please notify me as soon as possible. I do require photos of the broken item, photos of the damaged box as well as the packaging. Once you send me the photos, I will submit an insurance claim with the USPS and issue you a full refund. I ask that you hold onto the damaged item, box and packaging until the claim is settled in case the USPS asks me for additional information during the claim process. I will notify you once they have submitted a refund to my account so you can discard the damage goods. If an item is broken during the packing process, I will promptly refund your money and let you know that the order has been cancelled.
Once you receive your item, I would love to see it displayed or in use. A fantastic way to do this is to provide a review along with your photos. Reviews really help small online businesses. Again, please feel free to ask any questions you may have about an item or my shop. Thank you so much for shopping at The Perpetual Attic!
