It does not have the back flange, but that can be picked up at your local hardware store. The sconce measures about 7” x 3 ¾” at its widest point and extends about 4” out from the wall. The light carries its original wiring and as with all vintage wiring, Blue Barn suggests that the wiring be replaced or be checked by your electrician.
Due to safety reasons, the bulb will not be included in the shipping.
The porcelain light style became popular in the late 1920s. Like other porcelain bathroom and kitchen fixtures and tile, porcelain lights were desired because they were “sanitary” in an age very cautious of and careful about warding off disease. Their styling was charming… they were available in a range of colors and decorative designs … and the cost was relatively low.
Today, bare bulb fixtures tend to be an acquired taste. Porcelain lighting was dominant in bathrooms and kitchens throughout the Depression years, continuing to the end of World War II, during that era of when showing off your light bulbs was “in” and showed your visitors that you had the “latest and greatest” lights in the neighborhood.
