A Sterling silver, engraved locket brooch in the Aesthetic style depicting a stork, a butterfly and foliage. The brooch has a raised centre with a gadrooned border. It is in this panel, the stork is situated. There are four large, silver beads on the top and bottom of this area. On each side of this panel, are shields which are also, engraved. Each side has a filigree edge. Symbolises new baby's birth.
The Aesthetic movement believed that objects should be beautiful as well as useful.
The brooch has Sterling silver hallmarks on the back for Birmingham 1895.
The locket section is situated on the back. This requires a celluloid insert to protect any photos that you decide to use. The purple liner is soiled, but will be disguised should you opt to have a photo inserted.
The pin is straight and the brooch fastens with a secure C clasp.
An unusual Christening gift perhaps. A order stork symbolises the birth of a baby.
