In 1884 Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro began his ceramics production at the Fábrica de Faianças in Caldas, revealing pieces of great technical, artistic and creative quality, developing order table centerpieces, vase busts, pitchers, plates, perfume bottles, vases and many more pieces.
At the factory, hundreds of ceramic models of unparalleled creativity were created, based on local traditions particularly Caldas' pottery, adopting the fauna and flora as decorative inspiration. The ceramic production here became well known, especially for its artistic quality, both at a national and international level.

The Cabbage pattern, likely the most well-known and highly coveted by collectors, was introduced in the 1990s. Whilst originally produced in green, limited edition colours such as pink, honey gold and blue were produced in shorter runs and as such, are sought after today.
