Product code: Vintage order Wedgwood Black Basalt Tall Creamer Milk Pitcher Rope Handle High Tea Made in England Mid-Century 1955

The classic elegance of mid-century hospitality is evident in this sleek pitcher or tall creamer. Josiah Wedgwood introduced Black Basalt stoneware in 1768. Of his invention, Wedgwood stated “The Black is sterling, and will last forever.” It was still in high style during the 1950's and early 1960's. This pattern was proudly set out for hosting the ladies' bridge set and special dinner guests and likely gifted for an engagement or marriage. And you know they were dressed to the nines. With a matte, fine-grained exterior, and a high gloss black interior, each serving piece makes a statement all its own. Today.

Although Wedgewood is still making fine porcelain, a search on the company's website revealed that there are no Black Basalt items currently offered; apparently, it has been discontinued. While the pattern is collectible, it is still quite possible to find a wide variety of pieces. As an example, photos show a teatime setting using this creamer or milk pitcher with additional Black Basalt pieces that will be offered in separate listings.

This tall creamer or small pitcher was made in 1955. The underside of the bowl is marked ‘Wedgwood' ‘Made in England' ‘1955' “30” ‘:'(?). The pitcher measures about 5 ¼ inches tall. The opening measures about 2 ½ inches wide and, with the handle and lip, about 4 ½ inches wide. I discovered this pitcher model was made in a wide variety of sizes. Based on the measurements provided, this pitcher seems to be an intermediate size that might hold approximately 16 oz.

This tall creamer is in a nice vintage condition for 67 years. No chips, but the pitcher's exterior does have the typical scuffs. Hand washing is always recommended for this fine stoneware. Please review the photos in making your decision. This sale includes one pitcher; any other Black Basalt pieces and props are not included in this offering.

In total, about a dozen vintage Wedgwood Black Basalt pieces will be listed. If you choose to purchase several items, although they are pre-packaged for quick shipping, they can be quickly recombined into a single package. The actual shipping cost will be compared to the estimated cost included within each listing, including any added insurance and the excess will be promptly credited. Please Etsy message me if you have any questions.

This pitcher has been carefully packed for shipment via Priority Mail in the US within a new white gifting box. The standard Priority Mail insurance also covers up to the purchase price of this item, a order value of up to $11 included within your purchase.

Treat yourself and your guests to a proper high tea using this classic pitcher. If you are interested in additional Wedgwood Black Basalt and more vintage finds, please ‘heart' my shop.
