Department 56 "Bishops Oast House" Dickens Village #55670 Introduced in 1990, Retired in 1992.

Step back in time to the cobblestone streets, gas street lamps, and horse-drawn carriages of the 19th century Dickens' Village Series and revel In the bustling, hearty and joyous atmosphere found in the holiday season of Victorian England. With old world churches, quaint shops, cozy cottages, rustic mills, factories and more, the series portrays London and the surrounding order countryside as it was during Dickens' lifetime.

An oast, is a building designed for kilning (drying) hops as part of the brewing process. The Bishops Oast House by Department 56 is a colorfully detailed hand painted, porcelain kiln with a large attached barn, round cobblestone oasts that would contain a kiln for drying malt or hops to produce ale. Exterior is finished as a roughcast surface over brick. Oast houses are located throughout the Kent countryside many have now been converted into private residences.

Designed and sized to coordinate with the Dickens Village Series this charming porcelain figurine adds lively activity to any display.

Good vintage condition in original box & sleeve. Sleeve has some wear and writing. Contents include one working light cord and bulb
