I believe these French ticking pieces are from the 1870's to 1890's hand woven or machine woven. These pieces have enough irregularities in the weave to be either. They are old, used, but beautiful.
Offered are two (2) pieces of used antique French mattress ticking fabric in stripes of red on an ecru background with a herringbone weave pattern. The area with the six (6) red stripes is about one (1) inch wide as is the solid ecru area. Wonderful colors. This fabric is a medium weight linen/cotton weave. Very nice. Sturdy. Great texture.
The pieces measure about 19" wide and 36" long and 9" wide by 27" long. Pieces are not cut evenly so I measured from shortest widths and lengths. There are no selvage edges. The stripes run the length.
Pieces are in GOOD used condition. No holes. However, there are weave line flaws or connection lines, tiny tie-off knots, pulls, and a few spots as shown in photos. The spots MIGHT come out with a pretreat and soak in cold water. VERY inspiring OLD pieces.
I am no longer laundering my ticking. Our water has a lot of iron in it and I will not risk damaging my textiles.
