order “Cessna 2-4 Juliet, runway 2-5 line up and wait” the tower said before I took to the air on one of my many flights in the family Cessna 150. “Runway 2-5 line up and wait, 2-4 Juliet,” I responded.
The reference picture I took was snapped from Merril Field, in Anchorage Alaska, looking west towards downtown. It was pretty much a perfect day. No clouds that I remember, air traffic was low, and the temperature just warm enough. A minute of calm while sitting on the runway is a surreal experience for anyone, even a pilot. If I remember right, it was for spacing of departing and arriving traffic; a twin, leaving IFR and one or two others, arriving from different directions. Surreal and welcome, moments like this are one of the reasons I enjoy flying so much – to be able to experience perspectives that you can only imagine when sitting in back.
