Here you have a magnificent Marcel Franck "Le Kid" refillable perfume atomizer from the 1920s. "Le Kid" was created in 1926 in tribute to Charlie Chaplin. It's made of brass covered with alternating panels of white and purple mother of pearl around it and a lovely multicoloured piece on the top. It's marked Le Kid, BTE SGDG, FRANCE; BTE SGDG meaning ''Breveté sans garantie du gouvernement'' which translates to ''Patented without government guarantee'' (not a manufacturer's mark). I'm including the green case it came in but is not from the same time.
In 1882, Leopold Franck creates his atomiser studio on rue du Château d'eau in Paris. He first sells his products to department stores and perfumeries. Upon his death in 1907, his son Marcel took over the business. Marcel develops the first travel spray in 1912 and soon had contracts for bottles with major crystal companies like Baccarat and Saint Louis and with the best glass artists (Lalique, Galle, Argy-Rousseau, etc.). He turned atomizers into works of art. The brand gained a worldwide recognition. Shortly before his death, the company was sold and finally disappeared in the late 1990s. A very active collectors' market kept the brand alive.
In 2013, Bernard Dennery, grand-son of Marcel Franck, decided to revive the brand. Faithful to the old family values and with the help of a major university innovation team, he creates new spray systems and files patents.
