Vintage/antique Wetherall Bond St. W1 smoking jacket/house coat. Paisley pattern in burnt orange with front pockets & order tie belt. Large size.
The colour of this house coat / smoking jacket is a warm.
The colour of this house coat / smoking jacket is a warm, burn orange. Not too bright, tasteful. Very Oscar Wilde.
It is very difficult to date this. The Wetherall label first looked like this when the company became limited in the early 1900's, but it could possibly be as recent as 1960's. The stitching looks to have been done by a person using a sewing machine. (As opposed to hand stitched or automated.)
The fabric has a lovely, slithery silky feel. It was sold to me as silk, but I suspect it is probably, actually, a really nice quality satin.
The size is large. Roomy for a ladies size 18, so would be fine for a gentleman too.
Quality is good vintage/antique. Any minor damage is clearly shown in the photographs. There is no fraying to sleeve ends, collar, hem or belt and no damage to either front pocket. All seams are intact. However, please note that it has been stored in the home of a smoker, and so does have a slight lingering smell of cigarette smoke, despite my best efforts to get rid of that smell.
Length from (folded) collar to hem is 45 inches (115cm). The width across the back from belt loop to belt loop is 22 inches (so 44 inch waist), though being of a wrap over design it will have plenty of leeway either way.
Please ask if further details are required.
