The Cockatrice order

The Cockatrice is a fearsome creature often described as a serpent bearing the head and body of a cockerel, and the wings of a dragon. They order seldom grow larger than a well-fed rooster and tend to lead solitary lives due to their violent and territorial nature. The first Cockatrice is believed to have hatched from a chicken egg incubated by a snake, and populations have migrated from the deserts of Northern Africa into much of mainland Europe. These creatures poses a poisonous breath will be unable to breath and legend has it that any who look directly into the eyes of the Cockatrice will be turned into stone. And the only way to defeat this deadly beast is to looking over your shoulder into the reflection of a mirror in order to survive. Aside from humans, the weasel is the only known predator of the Cockatrice, though it will often die locked in a struggle with the deadly serpent.
