Welcome to Marchepuces.

French wooden portmanteau from the 1920's Art Nouveau period. A rail of 3 hooks on a well grained, wood backplate and in its original condition. It is really well proportioned with turned pegs shaped like mushrooms.

Its design is called Chinoiserie, a European art style/fashion trend that started in the 1920s and which reflected Chinese influence onto its own decorative objects and thus caused this French hatcoat rack to be designed, then turned from hard-wood to resemble oriental bamboo (faux bamboo). The items were of a high quality and seem to have withstood the test of time both physically as wooden objects and fashionably.

The rack would look equally as good in a hallway order carrying hats and coats even the dog's lead, or in a kitchen with cookery utensils, apron, hand towels, a bag, or a string of garlic hanging from it.

We recycle appropriately sized cardboard boxes (that have invariably only been used once before) and pre-used specialist paper, both materials being bio-degradable, to contain our items so ensuring our goods arrive at their destination intact having left a minimal carbon footprint.
