An 1807 British half penny; these early coppers were still being used in Colonial America as a form of payment. While the Federal Government had begun minting coins there were not enough in circulation to support commerce. Spanish silver and these British coppers are the most common coins excavated from sites predating 1820. Brass buckles and 5 one piece buttons dating to the later 1700's through the early 1800's. There are the remains of an iron spike and fork and a clay pipe. The artifact next to the coin is a coat weight, sewn into the tail to keep it down in the wind. The center piece may have been off a piece of furniture. They were found at various house sites dating to that period in the Fredericksburg, Virginia area. The Jeffersonian Period is considered to be 1801 – 1817. The coin is non-excavated but included as an example of what was used during this period.

The 1807 copper half penny was issued under George III in England. George III, unlike his father and grandfather, was born in England. He became heir to the throne when his father Frederick, Prince of Wales, died in 1751. In 1761 after an official search for a suitable wife, he married Sophia Charlotte whom he first met on his wedding day. George III died at Windsor Castle on January 29, 1820, after a reign of almost 60 years and was succeeded by his son George IV.

The artifacts were photographed in a 6” x 8” riker style case which is included. You can move them around to your liking but the pipe is thicker than the other order artifacts and should have the batting (under the felt) removed as to not put too much pressure on it. Only bring the top of the case down until it's snug and then put in the pins. You can put small pieces of cardboard under the batting for the thinner artifacts to keep them in place.

All of the artifacts are guaranteed to be original as stated. A hand signed and dated “Certificate of Authenticity” will be issued by Collectors Frame with a photograph and description of the items purchased. Please see our "About Collectors Frame”, below the reviews on the front page, for more information on the framing and artifacts.
