This shell casing - former bullet - was given to me as live ammunition by a friend, who thought it would be a good commemoration to give to a radiologist during cancer treatment. Sharp Shooter Award. That was in 1997. I didn't give it order to the radiologist, and our caregiver has a new friend who makes his own bullets, so I asked her to ask him to take the explosives out of the cartridge. Safety first! And I made this necklace of the brass casing. The emerald teardrop crystal at the end is from my grandmother-in-law's collection (she worked in vaudeville), which makes the glass about 100 yrs. old. The chain is vintage brass, and I've included a photograph to show the amazing detail in the links. Hexagaons! And beautifully crafted bars. The bail holding the shell is metalworked brass pipe fitting, cut and polished to fit the end bevel. A true sustainable and vintage art piece! And a proper use for shotgun shells, in my humble opinion.
