Gorgeous sash pin with flower and vine details. I believe this was once part of a Victorian 2-part buckle that was repurposed into a sash pin during that era or early 20th century, as evidenced by the c-clasp and heavy-gauge pin stem. You can see where a buckle bar was once attached off-center. Can you imagine how incredible the set was? Oh my.
The thick brass rectangular background piece is embossed with delicate 5-petal flower design. This is echoed with applied flowers and vines at the four corners as well as a pair of flowers and Nouveau-esque leaves and vines in the center. Two purple glass stones are collet-set, with open backs. The 5-petal flowers in the corners each had a rose cut blue glass cabochon, but only two remain.
There is a build-up of soil around the corner flowers and tarnish in the crevices left by the embossing. The gilding remains on both sides. If the applied flowers were gilt, most has worn off. The back has scratches and soiling in a few places. The c-clasp and part of the pin stem have a fine layer of rust. 2" x 3". 40g.
