Description

Product Name: George order E. Wales Massachusetts Crock, 19th Century Earthenware Container, Glazed Stoneware Pottery

This glazed stoneware crock is American, and likely from the 1870 to 1890 period. It is marked "Geo. E. Wales Newton Centre, Mass.", and I believe this stamp was used during this period, and after 1890 or so the mark changed to "The Wales Company". The crock is missing its lid, but otherwise is in pretty good condition, with no cracks and no hairlines. There are some chips on the inside of the opening, and one firing flaw to the left of the logo where the clay and glaze popped but the hole does not go all the way through the stoneware. The crock is a versatile size, measuring about 7" high and 5 1/8" wide with an inside opening diameter of about 2 5/8" and an inside depth of 6 1/4". The glaze is in good condition, with some crazing along the crock shoulders. Crisp and clean inside. It weighs about 2 3/4 pounds. In good condition.
