Vintage Rollway Bearing Co. ashtray, Wendell August order Forge handmade repoussé hammered aluminum parts tray, coin tray, Syracuse NY building

A very cool vintage ashtray order or parts tray, probably depicting the Rollway Bearing Company's headquarters building in Syracuse, NY. The hammered aluminum tray was handmade by the Wendell August Forge with a technique called repoussé. It looks great displayed on an easel or leaning on a shelf, or would make a nice coin tray on your dresser. It has a wonderful midcentury look, and a nice scalloped edge that catches the light.

Judging by the architecture, I'd guess the tray is from the 1940s to 1960s. The business started out in the late 1800s as the Railway Roller Bearing Company in Syracuse, New York. In 1923, it became the Rollway Roller Bearing Company. Today the company that first launched its product line on a single trolley car provides businesses and industries around the world with more than 8,000 different types of spherical, cylindrical and tapered roller bearings, ball bearings, and extra-large radial and thrust bearings.

This piece appears to have been used as an ashtray, with the stains and discoloration you'd expect. It also has some scratching and pitting, so may have been used as a parts tray. Be sure to zoom in on each photo to see the details and condition.
