the story of why lord ganesha has the head of an elephant

At that time Lord Ganesha was instructed by his mother to guard the entrance of his bathroom and not to let anyone in, while he was cleaning himself.
Lord Ganesha was created by Goddess Parvati when he was left by Lord Shiva, so Lord Shiva did not know that Lord Ganesha was his son.
Lord Shiva then came home and wanted to see Goddess Parvati. But he was prevented by Lord Ganseha who carried out Lord Parvati's orders.
When Lord Ganesha got in his way, Lord Shiva was very angry and beheaded Lord Ganesha his own son who he did not know himself that Lord Ganesha was his own son.
Goddess Parvati hears the commotion outside the bathroom and goes to see what is going on.
Seeing that her son had been killed by her husband, Goddess Parvati felt very sad.
To appease his wife, Lord Shiva promised to bring Ganesha back to life. Unfortunately, his head was thrown so far that it could not be found or returned.
Lord shiva says that reviving Ganesha is advised to take the head of the first living creature he finds sleeping with his head facing north.
The first creature found in such a position was an elephant, and so its head was taken to replace Ganesha.
The only animals that turn their backs on each other or fight back are elephants, so the calf is cut off and its head is joined to Ganesha's body.
Ganesha later came back to life and has since also been believed to be the god of salvation.
