1940s E.S.Lowe Chess & Checkers Bookshelf Game VOL. 554 Telescope Case Game order Pieces Wood Board in Square "Book" Magnetic Flap Case Excellent!

Edwin S. Lowe was a U.S. salesman, toymaker, game entrepreneur, and real estate developer who made a name for himself by creating games! His company was named appropriately and rightly so, E. S. Lowe Company. His first foray to promote the E. S. Lowe Company was the production of his Bingo game cards, which initially were released as 24-card sets.

But, one of the most well-known and popular games E.S. Lowe created is his miniature chess and checker game. This became a legendary game because was widely circulated among U.S. service personnel during World War II. I happen to have one of these 4.75" square rare beauties that are in really excellent condition given that it was circulated in the 1940s.

The game and contents are housed in a telescope-like case that tucks the pieces and the wood board neatly into a striking dark red faux leather covered 4.75" "book". Hence, Bookshelf Games were numbered and named by E.S. Lowe. The spine of the "game book" reads "Chess & Checkers - Vol. 554 - E.S. Lowe"

From the 1940s, this E.S. Lowe Vol. 554 Chess & Checkers is vintage. It has been well taken care of with just a bit of wear on the order front cover (see images) and is truly a collector's piece to enjoy.
