This was painted at Foster Garden in Honolulu. Often it's the flowers that grab my attention but this day it was the layers of green and a sense of protection that the towering trees and plants give to the garden paths.

I come from a family of Hawaiian artists, writers and woodworkers. My mother and my uncle were both writers and my great uncle was a master woodworker and consultant in the building of the voyaging canoe Hokule'a.
