The insides of the jars are not painted, so it's okay to put flour, sugar, coffee, tea, etc. in them. The jars are water resistant, however they are NOT water proof and should not be submerged in water for long periods of time or put in dishwasher. To clean, wipe down with dampened cloth using water or disinfectant of your choice and allow to air dry.
