Koi Pond Graphic order Design Paper Cutting Art

A Koi Fish is framed in a circle with a water lily and lily pads. This design is very graphic and bold. Each scale is individually cut out. The piece is made from a continuous piece of indigo paper and is layered with colorful papers to create the beautiful image. Made by the artist in her Pennsylvania studio. Of order a limited edition of 200.

Paper cutting has a long history all over the world. From German Scherenschnitte (using small scissors) and Ashkenazi paper cutting (using a knife) to paper cutting in Africa, China, and South America, many people over the centuries have contributed to this magical folk craft. Margaret Herbener has taken the traditional paper cutting and has added her voice to add modern elements into this long-respected art.
