Vintage Wall Mount Crucifix

The crucifix is a daily reminder for oneself of something eternally profound, a reminder of the great love of God for us. It is a vivid reminder of the great cost of redemption. Jesus destroyed death and restored life, eternal life. Jesus, the Crucified and Risen Messiah, is now the Way and the Life – the One who makes all things new.

The cross is made of brown wood with decorative wooden strips inlaid in geometric pattern. The corpus and INRI scroll banner are made of silvertone metal heavily infused by Mother Nature with dark patina. Both components are nicely detailed, well-constructed and securely hand attached to the cross. The depiction of the Crucified Christ is reverent and traditional in style. It is nicely cast in the presentation is reverent and well detailed. We see a figure of Christ whose sculptural body is realistically rendered with a well-defined musculature and detailed features. The rib cage is shown pressing through the tightly drawn flesh of Christ's flesh and the lower limbs are slightly bent at the knees and the feet crossed above the other. His face bears a serene expression, His eyes are open and His gaze fixed toward heaven as if in prayer and peacefully confident in the Savior, His Father.

The crucifix measures 14" tall x 7" wide. A metal ring is on the back for easy wall mounting. Although unmarked, more than likely hails from mid-century France order. In Very Good antique condition. Acquired from a closed Catholic seminary in Quebec, Canada (Séminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe).
