What looks like a maze, but is only a single path? A labyrinth! These ancient designs symbolized the solved maze.
Hi, my name is Charlotte and I'm a labyrinth artist. I make beautiful art that's rich in history and fun to explore.
Kickstart your holiday hosting with a conversation starter. These labyrinths are cast gypsum and feature gorgeous colors and a wealth of stories. Labyrinths have been around since the stone age and their patterns occur worldwide. order The medieval period in Europe saw an explosion in labyrinth patterns. From maze gardens to illustrations to massive Cathedrals, labyrinths as decorative and evocative symbolism flourished. The most well known of the great Cathedral labyrinths of France, the Chartres labyrinth was designed and installed in that period.
The pattern of the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth is found worldwide, it is widely regarded as the most fluid and meditative of the labyrinth patterns. The flower at the center is often associated with the Rose, Mary's symbol or also with the six days of creation. I make both smooth pathed and broken pathed labyrinths. For many people struggling with life, the imperfections inherent in making handmade art are more reassuring and meaningful because they reflect the difficulties they are experiencing. Whether you use your labyrinth as decoration or for meditation, this Chartres labyrinth will make a unique gift.
A labyrinth is a single path that mimics the feeling of getting lost without losing your way. Labyrinths are deliberately and artistically designed to short circuit the part of your brain that plans and worries. Have issues with control? Let go. Its one path, you will get there, you will get out again. Relax. Labyrinths distract the body so the mind is free to think. Labyrinths act like a mirror for your soul, a sacred space to set aside time to explore your life's journey. To ask questions of yourself, wander, to change your mind. Our society runs us ragged. If we don't leave time to look at where we're going in life, we may end up somewhere we didn't mean to be…
Do you know someone that needs less stress and more focus? Give a beautiful gift with a deeper meaning this holiday season!
About the labyrinths:
Each of my labyrinth designs are created from original art pieces. I work with wood, clay, wax, plaster and other materials depending on the complexity and intended use of the designs. Once the originals are ready, I meticulously create molds that capture the texture and feel of the originals. I work with gypsum for casting because it captures the finest details. If you look closely, you can see my tool marks. I enjoy color and you'll find that my labyrinths come in a wide variety of jewel tones. A food safe resin gloss coat with my signature on the back and I have an unique, original artwork ready for you to enjoy.
Which to choose Gypsum or Ceramic? Ceramic is gorgeous, will not fade, and can be used outdoors or inside. My ceramic spheres have hollow centers and are slightly lighter. The downside is that it will shatter if dropped. Gypsum is beautiful but cannot be used outside, is slightly heavier but only dents or chips when dropped. A drop of acrylic paint over the spot and its back to usefulness. Both have a very distinct feel for prayer or meditation, very different from a flat labyrinth, and the hollow center makes a difference on how you navigate them.
