Day of the Dead is order a holiday celebrated in central and southern Mexico. It's a day to celebrate and remember and honor those who have departed. Woman wear colorful clothing and paint their faces to resemble skulls. Colorful flowers are used to adorn their hair, hats and clothing.
I became fascinated by the fact that they chose to celebrate and remember their loved ones who had passed in this way.
Since I've always been drawn to painting women, especially using strong, bold colors, it sort of evolved into what I've been focusing on right now - paintings of colorful woman dressed up for a celebration of the dead.
I give them names which helps them come to life for me in my mind. This one lady I named Valentina. She remind me of Valentine's Day, a day of love. She's bold, beautiful and a little but brassy! And I just love her!
