This is a curated antique Washington & Lee University tobacco leather that was offered as a premium item by cigarette and cigar companies. Vintage is 1905-15. It is in excellent condition. An interesting feature of this item is the 1782-1871 date range. The year 1782 corresponds to the first recognized date of the school's founding. Subsequently the founding date was changed to 1749. The year 1871 corresponds to the year following Robert E Lee's death. It was in 1871 that the school's name officially was changed from Washington College to Washington & Lee University. The tobacco leather comes in a 3 order 3/4 x 4 1/4 antique-style silver easel-back frame. For the old school alumnus or fan. Makes a great anniversary or birthday gift.
