DESCRIPTION: This pleasant river pastoral scene makes me wish I had someone to row me around such a river on such a balmy summer day. The lady holds a parasol not because the day is hot but to protect her complexion, but to avoid the tan that might betray her as of the working class, like her servant at the oars, much as our grandmothers wore a bonnet. This is an Anderson- Lamb etching printed "before title" so there is no title or name of artist or etcher. Printed on thick paper. This etching is impressive as it is, but will be especially so when framed. We are also offering at this time a hand tinted copy. The size given is for the paper. The image size is 22 1/2 wide by 13 1/4 high.
HOW YOUR PRINT WAS MADE: The image of an engraving is made on metal (usually copper or steel) or the end-grain of wood using cutting tools, commonly a gouge called a burin. The image of an etching is made on metal (usually copper or steel) using acid. (The edges of engraved lines look clean-cut, straight; those of etched lines look irregular, wavy.) The image of a woodcut is made by cutting lines with a knife blade into the plank side of a block of wood. The image of a wood engraving is made by order cutting lines into the end grain of a block of wood using engraving tools, commonly a burin. The image of a Stone lithograph is made by drawing an image on a block of highly polished stone. All of these methods for printing original art are superior in look and value to photographic reproductions.
