Mid-Century designer, Ernest Sohn was known for his mixed media designs in dining ware and gift ware, using metal and wood with ceramics to lend a clean, modern appeal to functional items. Having emigrated to the United States from Europe in the 1930s, Belgian born Sohn worked his way through the ranks and won Good Design awards from the Museum of Modern Art in New York. He founded Ernest Sohn Creations in the mid 1950s.

This Ernest Sohn Creations Oval Covered Casserole Dish is a unique example of mid-century modern design, understated order and elegant- but not boring. I love this piece as a dresser trinket box or bookshelf decor- but however you choose to use it, it is an interesting piece of modern history.

In great condition, this estate piece looks barely used. It measures 10.5" from handle to handle x 4.5" x 4" high (5.5" high including ball on the lid).

Just a Note:
A lot of time goes into the research and posting of each item to make sure I am accurate about origin, age, and rarity. I always strive to notice and disclose any imperfections that go beyond normal use and age. I encourage questions about any of my items, so please look carefully at the photos and contact me if you require information or additional photos before purchasing. I want you to feel a connection to your item and love your purchase!

The nature of vintage and antique items is that they have been loved and used by people in times past. There are several reasons we love vintage items- because they remind us of those days or people now gone, because they are part of our history, or because the design and craftsmanship can't be found in contemporary items, and never will be again. Vintage items always have character and value, and as such should not be judged by the same criteria as something manufactured in recent years. That said, I try to curate items that have been displayed in china cabinets or may be gently used but still make a good appearance. Curating these things is a labor of love!
