This work is from the library order of Sir Peter Markham Scott, a British naval officer, conservationist and ornithologist, and the only child of renowned Navy officer and Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott, who appears as the subject of the frontispiece portrait of this work. During Robert Falcon Scott's career he led two expeditions to the Antarctic regions, the 1901-1904 Discovery expedition, and the 1910-1913 Terra Nova expedition, on which he died. After his early death he became a celebrated hero amongst the British Public.
This work is adapted from John Kennedy Maclean's 'Heroes of the Polar Seas', and features chapters dedicated to Scott, Shackleton (an associate of Scott), Sir John Franklin and others. Condition Report: In the publisher's original cloth binding. Smart. Slight rubbing to spine, and shelf wear to spine head and tail. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean. Overall: Very Good Indeed
