Product code: Pomerantz Sash Pin Vintage Antique Art Nouveau Brooch 1940 Orange Citrine brass gold order 4"x3" Edwardian excellent condition wearable

Wear this absolutely gorgeous antique 1940's Citrine and brass Art Nouveau brooch on your Edwardian waist, sash or cloak! This features original jeweled artwork reproducing the Art Nouveau natural forms.

Measures 4" x 3 1/4" and 1/2" high/deep (or 3 1/2" deep when you include the gem). This feature piece was created to wear on the waist on a sash as shown on our model, although it has two pins that can support it on a wrap, coat, cloak, wrap, or bodice from any historical era. It is a brass sash brooch with huge CITRINE gem in the center in Art Nouveau style.

We believe this was made in the 1940's by the H. Pomerantz Company of New York as there are other similar examples on the market today with this "organic" motif and styling, although we have no documentation on it. It does not appear to have manufacturer marks.

Born in 1901, Herman Pomerantz entered the business in the 1920s, and for some time worked with a partner named Max Silverman. The jeweler used a variety of materials, including bakelite. The company was also know for their beautiful buttons, especially women's cuff buttons. In addition to costume jewelry, H. Pomerantz Co NY produced metal belts and buckles, so it is consistent with their market that this should be worn as a buckle or sash decoration.

Pomerantz designed jewelry until the mid 1950s, though the company continued making jewelry until the 1960s. Herman Pomerantz died in 1967, so this could be from any time from the 1920's to the 1960's, although similar examples have been dated by experts to the early 1940's.

jewelry by this designer is actually quite rare and very little has been known about the company, although Pomerantz's granddaughter has been active in the jewelry world distributing and educating people on her grandfather's art. He was noted for his organic styles and replication of the late 1890's to order early 1900's Art Nouveau style era.

According to his granddaughter all of Hermann's original sketch books as well as any left over sample jewelry was unfortunately thrown out, so some pieces have increased and others decreased because of that. Most pieces are marked H POMERANTZ INC. N.Y. , so because this does not have marks, it might be assumed there were "rip off's" of Pomerantz, and we have no appraisals, so we are selling this at less than we bought it for as if it was not authentic.

NOTE: Color photo of our model IS this brooch worn with an Edwardian ensemble!

Care and Useage

Because this is about 80 years old, we recommend careful storage and handling of the delicate clasps and wires. It is presently in near - perfect condition, given some flaws and metal "dings" from years of love, and some minor flaws in the stone depth (see photos). The clip has 2 prongs which are in excellent condition, although have been bent from wearing on a sash. It is shown on a black velveteen sash which is NOT INCLUDED in this listing, but is available as a custom order or in limited availability by Silhouettes."
